The New York Mets (67-78) rolled past the Arizona Diamondbacks (76-71), 7-1, on Wednesday night at Citi Field behind a strong pitching performance from Joey Lucchesi.
Lucchesi, making his first big-league start since August 18, yielded just one unearned run over seven innings while allowing five hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
Pete Alonso led the offense, going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Mark Vientos crushed his fifth home run of the season. Rafael Ortega added a run-scoring double.
Trevor Gott and Drew Smith each fired a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
Kodai Senga will take the ball on Thursday as the Mets try to take three of four from the Diamondbacks. The first pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m.
