Updated state gun laws go into effect Wednesday: What are the changes?

Starting September 13, New York State is implementing new gun regulations, mandating that the New York State Police will supervise background checks for every ammunition and firearms transaction.

Under the new guidelines, background inspections for ammunition will be priced at $2.50, while firearms checks will carry a fee of $9. These charges are instituted to financially support the fresh initiative.

For a sale to be finalized, it’s imperative for potential purchasers to obtain a “proceed” confirmation from the State Police. If a buyer’s request is denied, they are granted a 30-day window to contest the decision.

To adapt to the changes, firearms dealers in New York State, Federal Firearms Licensees, and ammunition vendors now have the option to register online. Specialized operation teams are on hand to streamline the registration journey. Dealers can commence their registrations once the new regulations are active.
