Public hearing slated for Canandaigua marina zoning change

A petition from the owner of German Brothers Marina, seeking a change in the zoning of the marina property, will be the subject of a public hearing by the Canandaigua Town Board on September 18 at 6 p.m.

Peter Bruu, the marina owner, hopes to change the current zoning of the property at 3907 County Road 16 from Residential Lake District to Incentive Zone, according to new reporting by the Finger Lakes Times.

The Times reports that the proposed shift aims to increase boat slips from 33 to potentially 150, construct a lakeside restaurant, demolish an existing service building (relocating it to North Road), and introduce eight vacation rental housing units.

Incentive zoning permits applicants to request special zoning, usually not permitted in specific areas.

In exchange, the town negotiates amenities from property owners that benefit the public. Bruu has suggested multiple amenities, including traffic congestion relief around the marina, public restrooms, picnic areas, and a boat slip for the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department.

The hearing will be held at the Town Hall located at 5440 Routes 5&20.
