William Smith College senior midfielder Ava Ruppersberger was named the Liberty League Soccer Offensive Performer of the Week this afternoon.
Ruppersberger guided the Herons to a 1-0-1 week on Cozzens Field. On Wednesday, she scored both goals as William Smith rallied to defeat Geneseo 2-1 in its home opener. Twenty-three seconds after the Knights took a 1-0 lead, Ruppersberger converted a penalty kick to tie the game. She won the game in the 80th minute. She intercepted a clearing pass, carried the ball 20 yards, and buried a left-footed shot in the bottom right corner of the cage. On Sunday, the Herons tied Rocester 2-2. Ruppersberger had two shots.
Through four games, Ruppersberger is tied for the team lead with five points. She has two goals and one assist.
William Smith (3-0-1) will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when it heads to Grantham, Pennsylvania, to take on third-ranked Messiah University. It will be the 16th meeting between the two teams.
