Weedsport man admits to long-term child abuse ahead of trial: Faces life sentence

Michael Peterson, a 42-year-old resident of Weedsport, confessed to the continuous sexual abuse of a young girl under 13 for nearly six years.

Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced on Thursday that Peterson entered his guilty plea to charges of predatory sexual assault against a child.

This admission came before an impending jury trial.

Scheduled for sentencing on Nov. 9, Peterson faces a compulsory prison term ranging from 14 years to a lifetime.

The prosecution was led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Heather De Stefano, and Peterson’s arrest in September 2022 followed an investigation by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.
