Yohanes Stefanos Kidane, a 22-year-old software engineer for Netflix and Webster native, was identified as the deceased individual found in the San Francisco Bay, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
On Aug. 29, a boat near the Golden Gate Bridge reported an unresponsive person in the water. Authorities, including the U.S Coast Guard, responded, retrieving a male body that was later identified as Kidane on Aug. 31, despite initial challenges due to decomposition and prolonged water exposure. The cause of death was attributed to blunt impact injuries, with drowning as a significant factor.
Kidane, a recent Cornell University graduate, was reported missing on Aug. 14 after taking an Uber in San Jose. His last known location was in San Francisco, with some personal items later found near the Golden Gate Bridge. Authorities and organizations involved in the identification process include the San Jose Police Department, CHP Marin Office, Department of Justice Missing and Unidentified Persons Section, and the Golden Gate Bridge Authority.
