Larry J. Schoonover, a 51-year-old Bath resident, was indicted by a Steuben County grand jury on September 5 for his involvement in a police standoff last month.
Schoonover faces an array of charges including twelve counts each of first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
Additional charges include third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, five counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
The indictment alleges that Schoonover fired multiple shots from a 16-gauge shotgun at law enforcement officers during a six-hour standoff, which initiated following a domestic dispute on the night of August 20 and concluded in the early hours of August 21.
Officers from the Bath Village Police Department, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police were involved. Schoonover is currently being held without bail and will be represented by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, with his first court date pending.
