Port Byron is set to host Canal Day this Saturday, reviving a tradition that celebrates the village’s historic connection to the Erie Canal.
The event, rejuvenated last year by a dedicated group of volunteers after a hiatus since 2004, will commence at 10 a.m. on Sept. 9 at the Port Byron Little League field, 14 Sponable Drive.
Festivities will begin with a grand parade, followed by a series of live musical acts, including performances by the Cayuga Cut Ups Square Dance Club, Auburn Chamber Orchestra string trio, Juhl Band, and emo cover band Tell All Your Friends.
Visitors can also partake in a cornhole tournament, the Port Byron Canal Day Duck Derby, and savor a variety of food offerings from local vendors such as F-n-A’s, Nino’s Pizzeria, and Bearded Bear BBQ, among others.
Additional attractions include bounce houses and a vendor fair. Admission to the event is free for all, and further details can be found on the event’s official Facebook page at facebook.com/canaldayscny.
