Postal office inside Hallmark store in Auburn closed over contract dispute

The Contract Postal Unit inside Palmer’s Hallmark store at Auburn Plaza has ceased operations.

Jay Palmer, the store’s owner, told The Auburn Citizen that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) decided to shutter the unit following his plea for increased compensation to offset operating costs, including staff wages and utilities.

The unit has been running at a loss for several months and his plea for additional funding to help run it was met with swift response from USPS..

Instead of negotiating, they shut it down.
