Ithaca College has been distinguished as one of the foremost institutions for LGBTQ+ students in 2023 by Campus Pride, a leading national entity focused on fostering LGBTQ inclusivity and leadership in academic environments.
The prestigious “Best of the Best” honor was awarded to the college for its ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students, staff, and faculty, especially in a challenging socio-political landscape where LGBTQ+ rights are frequently debated.
Of the 30 colleges recognized this year, each institution garnered top scores on the Campus Pride Index, a comprehensive evaluation tool that assesses the LGBTQ-friendly policies and practices of academic campuses across the nation.
Ithaca College offers robust resources for its LGBTQ+ students, notably the Open Pages Residential Learning Community for transgender and nonbinary students and the IC Pride Fellowship aimed at young professionals. Luca Maurer, head of Ithaca College’s Center for LGBT Education, highlighted the institution’s longstanding commitment to LGBTQ+ support, believing the recognition bolsters the college’s appeal to prospective LGBTQ+ students.
