The DEC highlighted an illegal hauler in Seneca Falls, in an incident where the driver was ticketed for not having proper permits to do so.
Environmental Conservation Officers teamed up with inspectors from the New York State Department of Transportation on Aug. 9 to perform checks on Heavy Duty Diesel Vehicles in Seneca Falls.
During their inspections, the officers observed a variety of violations, from leaking oil to tax law infractions. A particularly egregious violation involved a truck hauling 25 cubic yards of asbestos without the required permit, in addition to leaking oil and having multiple safety issues.
The officers immediately ticketed the driver, put the truck out of service, and escorted it to a facility authorized to handle hazardous substances for the safe disposal of the asbestos. The tickets have been issued and are returnable to the Seneca Falls Court.
