State police have arrested two people in Lyons after a young child was seriously injured in an incident there.
On August 24, troopers arrested Terrell Martinez, 24, and Morgan Pentycofe, 29, for second-degree assault, and second-degree assault on a child under 7.
The felony charges stem from an incident that happened on August 12 when Martinez allegedly caused numerous injuries to a 1-year-old girl. Pentycofe, who is the mother of that child, witnessed the incident.
The child was taken to Newark-Wayne Hospital where it was reported by the two that the child had fallen out of a crib.
The child was subsequently transported to Strong Memorial Hospital because of the serious injuries they sustained.
State police say the child suffered serious injuries to the head and extremities, and that they were caused by Martinez, who is Pentycofe’s boyfriend.
Both were arraigned and released after appearing in court.
