Kyle Furguson, a resident of Rose town, has proposed the establishment of a sand and gravel mine on Wayne Center Road.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Region 8 office in Avon received Furguson’s application for a mined land reclamation permit.
The planned mine is set to span 4.9 acres, aiming to extract an estimated 250,000 cubic yards of material from the predominantly agricultural site over two decades.
Post-mining, the altered 9.2-acre terrain, which will see significant topographic changes, is intended to be transformed into a 5.4-acre pond. The DEC has given assurances that the environmental impact of the project will be insignificant.
Public comments regarding the project are being accepted until Sept. 15 and can be directed to Frances Knickmeyer at the DEC’s Region 8 office.
