Chevis G. Sargent, an Addison resident, was convicted of first-degree rape after a jury trial in Chemung County Court on Friday, Aug. 25, according to Chemung County District Attorney Weeden A. Wetmore.
The charge emerged from an investigation into a sexual assault incident that transpired in Horseheads on Jan. 23.
Sargent faces a prison term ranging from 5 to 25 years, and following his release, he will be mandated to register under the Sex Offender Registration Act.
Until his sentencing scheduled for Oct. 23, 2023, he remains detained in the Chemung County Jail.
