Former Auburn Correctional inmates face additional time for assault on local officers

Two ex-inmates of the Auburn Correctional Facility, Dejour Nesmith, 32, from Rochester, and Windsor Coleman, 34, from Massapequa, have been indicted on charges stemming from an alleged assault on several correctional officers.

The incident took place on Aug. 10, 2022, in the facility’s north mess hall. Nesmith faces charges for allegedly assaulting three officers, while Coleman is accused of attacking two different officers. Each of these second-degree assault charges could add up to seven years of imprisonment and five years of post-release supervision for the accused.

While Coleman was arraigned and is slated to reappear on Sept. 5, Nesmith’s arraignment has been postponed due to his refusal to leave his cell, as stated by the DA’s office.
