A repair project for Crescent Beach, a barrier bar safeguarding Sodus Bay from Lake Ontario’s harsh effects, is set to commence this year.
However, owing to previous bids that vastly surpassed anticipated expenses, Wayne County has opted for a phased approach to the project, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The initial proposal had garnered a $26.4 million bid last year, which was $13 million more than expected. Subsequently, the county approved a revised project bid of $12.88 million from WD Malone Truck and Excavating.
The first phase will address the most vulnerable parts of the barrier. Wayne County, under the state’s Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI), secured $14.6 million, with its share being $1.5 million for the project.
Due to escalating granite prices, among other factors, the overall costs of the project surged.
