Cayuga sex offender fails to report, attempts to disseminate indecent material to minors

Brien Fredendall, a 44-year-old registered sex offender from Mentz, was arrested on August 16, 2023, by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

The charges include failure to report as a sex offender and attempted disseminating indecent material to minors, both classed as E Felonies.

The arrest follows allegations of Fredendall sharing explicit content with a minor online and neglecting to report internet accounts to the New York State Department of Criminal Justice, a mandate for his status as a registered offender.

The investigation saw collaborative efforts between the FBI, NYSP, and the Cayuga County Probation Department.

Following arraignment, Fredendall was held at the Cayuga County Jail, awaiting further court proceedings. Authorities have urged individuals with relevant information to contact Detective Sergeant Nicole Stewart or submit tips through the Cayuga County’s official website, ensuring the option for tipsters to remain anonymous.
