State targets Waverly sticker shop in cannabis crackdown

  • Staff Report

State authorities have clamped down on “Mile High Accessories,” a sticker shop in Waverly, ordering it to halt the sale of unlicensed marijuana products.

The state’s Office of Cannabis Management, after inspecting the shop situated at 315 Broad Street, placed notices on its front door indicating the seizure of illicit cannabis and directed an immediate discontinuation of its sale.

The intervention comes as part of New York’s broader initiative to combat businesses dealing in unauthorized marijuana sales.

Previously, the “gift loophole” allowed these shops to legally operate in a nebulous space, where customers would purchase a sticker and receive marijuana as a “gift.” No money was exchanged for the marijuana directly. However, with the closure of this loophole, New York State has now established that businesses in violation of this law could face penalties of up to $10,000 daily.
