New York bill aims to shield employees intervening in shoplifting incidents

Amid a significant surge in shoplifting incidents across the state a new bill has been introduced in the state legislature.

RochesterFirst.com reports that Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick has introduced a proposal that seeks to protect employees who take action against shoplifters.

Currently, many retail establishments discourage or outright prohibit staff from pursuing thieves, but this legislation aims to ensure that employees aren’t penalized or dismissed for such interventions.

Under the new proposal, employees who intervene in theft cases would be shielded from repercussions that might affect their future employment prospects.
