A series of shoplifting incidents at the local Walmart over nine days has resulted in five arrests. The arrested individuals span a range of ages and, in some cases, faced additional charges.
John Maricle, 53, of Cortland was arrested on August 5 after allegedly stealing goods from the store on July 28. He has been charged with petit larceny and conspiracy in the sixth degree.
On August 11, Curtis Rice, 32, and Ashley Marshall, 28, were apprehended and charged with petit larceny, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, and conspiracy in the sixth degree; Marshall was additionally charged for possession of a controlled substance.
Sara VanHousen, 31, of Dryden, was taken into custody on August 12 and charged with burglary in the third degree and petit larceny.
Jennifer Felton, 44, of Berkshire was arrested on August 14 under similar charges. All arrests were assisted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.
