Geneva duo facing animal cruelty charges after abusing dog that was dying with cancer

The Ontario County Humane Society received a report Sunday of a dog whining in a backyard at 58 Wadsworth Street in Geneva. Following the report of animal cruelty, two individuals were arrested on August 13.

Anthony DeMarco, 61, was reported to have verbally abused and kicked Nina, an emaciated 12-year-old mixed breed dog.

The dog’s owner, Urania Warona, 49, had been aware of Nina’s deteriorating health for several months but neglected to seek medical attention.

Upon examination by a local veterinarian, Nina was found to be suffering from advanced cancer, severe flea infestation leading to fur loss, and various untreated ailments.

Regrettably, due to her condition, the decision was made to euthanize her. Both suspects were charged with Animal Cruelty and are scheduled to appear in Geneva City Court. The Geneva Police Department assisted in the investigation.
