In celebration of its 200th anniversary, Wayne County initiated a torch relay on Monday, with participants traversing through its towns, villages, and hamlets.
Runners are set to cover approximately a mile individually, though some have opted for longer stretches, summing up to around 40 miles daily.
The route highlights the canal path and passes several historic landmarks. The relay is slated to culminate on Friday at its starting point: the Fairgrounds in Palmyra, where all participating runners will reconvene for the final dash to the finish line.
Adding to the festivities, a special youth torch relay will take place at Sodus High School. Young participants will have the chance to circle the track bearing the torch, with their contributions also counting toward the overall 200-mile target.
