The New York Mets (54-65) picked up a 7-2 series-opening victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates (53-66) Monday night at Citi Field.

New York scored in each of the first six innings, led by Jeff McNeil and Jonathan Arauz, who each drove in two runs. Brandon Nimmo crushed his 16th home run of the season, and Daniel Vogelbach belted his ninth. Pete Alonso chipped in a run-scoring double.

Carlos Carrasco allowed two runs over three innings. Tyson Miller, Sam Coonrod, Phil Bickford, Trevor Gott, and Adam Ottavino combined for six scoreless frames.

The Mets will try to win the series on Tuesday with David Peterson on the hill. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
