Clarke Schmidt gave up a career-high eight earned runs as the New York Yankees (60-59) fell 11-3 to the Atlanta Braves (76-42) in the series opener on Monday night at Truist Park.
Schmidt, who recorded just seven outs, entered the game having allowed three runs or fewer in 14 consecutive starts since May 19.
The offense was pretty quiet as well. Harrison Bader plated the first run with a groundout, Isiah Kiner-Falefa drove in the second run with an RBI single, and Anthony tripled home a run. New York went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
The Yankees will send Luis Severino to the mound Tuesday as they try to snap a three-game skid. The first pitch is slated for 7:20 p.m.
