Sutton stepped down for undisclosed personal reasons on Friday, as confirmed by city officials.

The council plans to fill the vacancy via appointment, with the appointed individual slated to serve until December 31, 2024.

A Special Election will be held during the General Election in November 2024 to determine the successor for the remainder of the term.

Residents of Canandaigua interested in the position have been urged to submit their applications by August 18. Preliminary interviews for the position are set for the evening of August 29.
