The New York Yankees made some roster moves ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Miami Marlins.
The club placed starting pitcher Nestor Cortes on the 15-day injured list with a left rotator cuff strain, the same injury he dealt with earlier in this season that caused him to miss over two months.
Cortes told reporters he would be shut down from throwing for about a month. While he’s hoping to return late in the season, it’s possible he won’t be back until 2024.
New York called up Jhony Brito from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his spot in the rotation. Additionally, Randy Vasquez was called up and will start Friday’s game.
The Yankees enter play Friday holding last place in the AL East, sitting five games back of the final wild-card spot and only three games above .500.
