Semiconductor giant AMD expands to Monroe County

Semiconductor giant AMD has expanded its reach in New York with the establishment of research and design centers at the Linden Oaks Office Park in Rochester, Monroe County, and the Westgate Business Park in the Village of Fishkill, Dutchess County.

This move follows an initial investment of $3.3 million, with the company eyeing more financing for both sites in the coming years. By 2025, the project is set to produce up to 165 new jobs.

The facilities, both now fully operational, will center on the development of integrated circuits and packaging for processors used in sectors like cloud computing, gaming, and PCs. New York’s Gov. Kathy Hochul lauded the project, stressing the state’s dedication to fostering semiconductor industries.

Assisting AMD’s expansion, Empire State Development is extending up to $5 million in performance-based Excelsior Tax Credits. Mark Papermaster, AMD’s CTO, highlighted the significance of the region’s research capacity, stating the expansion would tap into its renowned universities and engineering talent.
