Penn Yan school introduces health center to boost student wellbeing

In an effort to provide a unique healthcare experience to students, Penn Yan Elementary has launched the Penn Yan School-based Health Center.

Managed by Penn Yan Community Health, a branch of Finger Lakes Community Health, this innovative facility will offer medical, dental, and behavioral health services on campus, integrating wellness and prevention into the school environment.

School-based health centers aim to address health concerns that impact student wellbeing, from everyday sick visits to broader issues like nutrition and mental health.

The center, also extending partial services to Penn Yan Middle School and Penn Yan Academy, will operate concurrently with the school’s schedule, even during summer sessions, reducing the need for parents to leave work for their child’s appointments.

With the full support of the Penn Yan School District, which financed the construction of the center, the initiative seeks to address barriers to care such as financial constraints, work schedules, and lack of transportation.

Enrollment in the School-Based Health Center program will be available on an ongoing basis, with information distributed to parents at the start of the school year and via the community health website.
