Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard gave an update Monday on a collision between a bicyclist and a deputy’s patrol vehicle on State Route 415 in Bath.
The crash happened during the early morning hours of August 5.
According to Allard, the incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. when a deputy, who was responding to a call, struck the bicyclist. They were traveling west in the driving lane. The bicyclist was conscious and responsive at the scene before being transported by EMS to a regional medical center for treatment.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is now investigating the incident.
In light of the accident, Sheriff Allard issued a reminder to all cyclists to ensure they are fully equipped with the required lights and reflective gear in compliance with New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law when cycling after sunset.
The Sheriff extended thoughts and prayers for the swift recovery of the injured cyclist.
