The Town of Macedon, alongside Wayne County, is set to celebrate its bicentennial with the return of the Heritage Festival on the Erie, on September 2, 2023.
The event, beginning at 12 p.m. at Macedon Lock 30 Park, will incorporate the World Fife and Drum Festival and will feature a torch light parade and fireworks.
Activities will cater to all age groups, including live music performances, World Fife and Drum Corp demonstrations, craft vendors, a kids zone with a bounce house and pony rides, and horse and wagon rides around the park. A special offering will be free public boat rides on the Erie Canal, sponsored by the Town of Macedon.
Town Supervisor Kim V. Leonard extended an open invitation to the community, expressing excitement for the event meticulously planned by the Macedon Heritage Festival Committee.
The festival, funded partly by the NYS Canal Corporation and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, aligns with the NYS Canal System Tourism Infrastructure and Event Grants program. This investment in recreation and tourism aims to shed light on Macedon’s history, from its original Seneca Nation inhabitants to its establishment in 1823, celebrating two centuries of growth and community.
