On Friday evening, Ithaca Police Officers responded to a report of an assault involving a firearm on the 100 Block of West State Street.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:21 PM when two unidentified males attacked a man standing on the sidewalk, with one of the subjects pulling out what appeared to be a handgun. Although the attempt to discharge the weapon at the victim was unsuccessful, the suspect struck the victim in the head and neck with the handgun before fleeing. Evidence at the scene suggests the weapon may have been a pellet or BB pistol.
The victim, who sustained lacerations during the assault, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspects, described as black males wearing dark clothing, with one wearing a red bandanna, remain at large. The investigation into the assault is ongoing, and the Ithaca Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward, offering the option to remain anonymous.
