A significant boost in federal funding is on its way to hospitals across New York state as the federal government modifies the Medicare Wage Index.
Nearly $1 billion a year will be directed to these hospitals, a decision praised by health care providers.
The revision will particularly benefit upstate New York, which had previously struggled with low Medicare reimbursement.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer lauded the move, saying, “It means more jobs. Our hospitals will be able to hire more people. But it’s great for everyone, because it means better health care.”
