The New York Yankees didn’t do anything significant on trade deadline day, but they did acquire a pair of pitchers.
The club added right-handed reliever Keynan Middleton from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for 21-year-old starting pitcher Juan Carela, who was at High-A Hudson Valley.
Minutes later, New York struck a deal with the Texas Rangers, landing righty Spencer Howard for cash considerations.
Middleton, 29, has posted a 3.96 ERA over 36 1/3 innings this season and has a career 4.00 ERA.
Howard, 27, has a career 7.20 ERA over 115.0 innings. He has appeared in 38 big-league games and started 29 of them.
