Police say one person was taken into custody after an incident at a local church.
On Monday around 8:40 a.m. Ithaca police responded to a report of a naked woman with a gun on the altar of Immaculate Conception Church.
One of the staff members reported that the gun was pointed at them, but they were unable to get out of the building.
Officers responded to the church on North Geneva Street and made entry into the location to make contact with the suspect.
Once officers saw the woman and confirmed she had no weapons – they took her into custody. What appeared to be a knife and handgun were located moments later after taking the woman into custody.
The handgun actually turned out to be a replica Smith & Wesson BB gun.
Police said the woman was transported to a local medical facility for treatment and was having a mental health crisis. She was not identified.
