Ithaca College, despite grappling with declining enrollment and budget constraints, recently bought two residential properties near its campus.
Ithaca College officials told The Voice that the purchases did take place, but noted they were made as safeguards against outside, private development.
At this point, the College has no plans for the properties and they will remain on the tax rolls.
The College has suffered a 25% drop in enrollment over the last decade. More than 100 full-time positions have been eliminated.
