Ontario County is readying to update its 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP), which received state approval in 2013.
As part of the plan, which includes the projected 2028 closure of the county landfill, the Board of Supervisors’ Planning & Environmental Quality Committee has agreed to use revenue from the county landfill to hire a consultant to assist in updating the SWMP.
The county’s landfill, located in the town of Seneca, is managed by Casella Waste Services of Ontario LLC under a lease agreement.
The post-closure waste disposal strategy will be a crucial aspect of the SWMP revision.
