Taco Bell is expanding its menu with the nationwide launch of its Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco, complete with a new protein option, slow-braised shredded beef.
The fast-food chain, known for its iconic seasoned beef, has for the first time added shredded beef to its offerings, a new protein that’s been two years in the making, according to a press release issued on Thursday. The slow-braised shredded beef will not only be the centerpiece of the Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco but will also be available for inclusion in other items like burritos or Chalupas while supplies last.
Inspired by the popular birria-style tacos of Mexico, the Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco is filled with a melted mix of cheddar, mozzarella, and pepper jack cheeses, with more cheese grilled onto the taco’s exterior. The taco is served with two dipping sauces: a nacho cheese sauce and a zesty red sauce. Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s global chief food innovation officer, regards this Mexican-inspired dish as an evolution of what fans typically expect from Taco Bell. The new menu item will be available at participating Taco Bell locations nationwide from August 3 for a limited time.
