NYSP say another skimmer has been found at a grocery store in Cortland County

New York State Police have issued a warning to residents of Cortland County following the discovery of a credit card skimming device at a local grocery store.

The skimmer, found at the Save A Lot Food on State Route 222 in Cortlandville, was attached to a register and detected by an employee on July 24 who noticed that the keys on the credit card machine appeared different than on other machines.

The police have urged shoppers to enhance their payment security by switching to mobile wallet services like Apple Pay and Android Pay, as these services prevent direct contact with the terminal and generate unique transactions.

They also advised residents to be vigilant, suggesting that they look for signs of tampering such as cracks or loose pieces on card machines and to physically check devices for any discrepancies.
