The National Weather Service (NWS) Binghamton has issued a heat advisory until 8 p.m. across multiple counties in New York.
With heat index values expected to reach 99, hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to heat illnesses.

The highest temperatures and heat indices are expected in urban valleys.
Residents are advised to take precautions such as drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, avoiding the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors. The NWS urges extreme caution regarding children and pets left unattended in vehicles. Those who work or spend significant time outdoors should consider rescheduling strenuous activities to the cooler early morning or evening hours, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
Will things cool off this weekend?
However, the current heat and humidity will be replaced by cooler weather, with a cold front expected to move through on Saturday bringing showers and thunderstorms. The inclement weather could disrupt outdoor plans, but clearer skies are anticipated later in the afternoon.
This shift in weather will also significantly reduce humidity levels from Saturday night into Sunday. A change in pattern will bring cooler than average temperatures and much lower humidity for much of next week, offering respite from the current heatwave.
