Cyclist in critical condition after collision in Penn Yan: Driver charged with failing to yield

David Bailosky, an 81-year-old cyclist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is in critical condition following a traffic accident in the village of Penn Yan on Tuesday.

First responders say Bailosky was participating in a bike tour across the Finger Lakes when he was struck by a car on State Route 54 at the Bath Road intersection.

The driver was identified as Penn Yan resident Dale Jensen. He was reportedly heading south on Route 54 and failed to yield to the cyclist while attempting to turn onto Bath Road.

As a result, Bailosky suffered severe head, shoulder, and internal injuries and was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital, according to first responders.

Jensen received a citation for failing to yield the right of way.

Several agencies, including the Penn Yan Fire Department, Ambulance, Yates County’s Office of Emergency Management, and Mercy Flight, assisted the Yates County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
