The Yankees (53-48) had their three-game win streak snapped Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium with a 9-3 loss to the Mets (47-53) in the third game of the 2023 Subway Series.
Pete Alonso had a big night for the Mets, crushing his 27th and 28th home runs while collecting a season-high five RBI. Daniel Vogelbach went back-to-back with Alonso, his seventh long ball, while Jeff McNeil drove in three runs with a double and single.
Justin Verlander, who has owned the Yankees over the years, tossed six shutout frames while allowing just two hits.
The Bombers were able to do some damage against the Mets’ bullpen in the seventh and eighth. Anthony Volpe plated a run with an RBI double, Giancarlo Stanton had a sacrifice fly, and Ben Rortvedt added an RBI fielder’s choice. Gleyber Torres extended his career-best hitting streak to 14 games.
Domingo Germán turned in another rough outing, allowing six runs over six innings.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. for the final time this season. If the Mets pick up another victory, they would win the season series by taking three of four.
