A man from Cayuga County identified as Duane Hollenbeck, 54, has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison for the possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle.
Hollenbeck had previously pled guilty to possessing an AR-15 style rifle with a barrel shorter than the federally mandated 16 inches, which, according to US law, must be registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.
Hollenbeck, along with 19-year-old Alec Hollenbeck of Lincklaen, Chenango County, was arrested last year after State Troopers discovered them in possession of several untraceable “ghost guns” and large-capacity magazines, in violation of state law.
Chief United States District Judge Brenda Sannesto sentenced Hollenbeck to 41 months in prison followed by three years of post-release supervision.
