The New York Yankees (52-47) won their first series in July with a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals (28-72) at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied at two in the seventh, DJ LeMahieu crushed an opposite-field home run to give the Yankees their third lead of the contest, and Giancarlo Stanton added some breathing room with a two-run shot in the eighth before Clay Holmes closed it out.
Gerrit Cole allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings while striking out 10, his second-straight double-digit strikeout game. The right-hander has allowed two runs or fewer in 16 of his 21 starts this season, the most in Major League Baseball.
Stanton had a two-out RBI single earlier in the game, while Gleyber Torres added a sacrifice fly and extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single.
The Yankees will hand the ball to Luis Severino on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as they try to sweep this three-game series.
