The Waterloo Central School District Board of Education has unanimously agreed to operate under a $49.8 million contingency budget for the 2023-24 academic year.
This decision comes in response to two failed attempts to secure a budget approval from the public, with defeats by a slim margin in May and June.
The contingency budget marks an 8.78% increase from the 2022-23 spending plan of $45.7 million.
Despite the increase in overall budget, property taxes are set to remain unchanged at $12.8 million.
The specifics regarding necessary cuts to accommodate the new budget will be determined by the school board. The tax rates per $1,000 of assessed value are scheduled to be set in late August.
