Seneca County Sheriff’s Office releases June 2023 report highlight major arrests and activity

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office provided a snapshot of its activities for June 2023, revealing a busy month in both law enforcement and corrections. The Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,584 calls for service, resulting in 41 arrests. The department also made significant progress in fraud cases, recouping a yearly total of $161,642. In addition, the Narcotics Unit reported eight new drug cases, with three arrests made.

Highlights from the month included several high-profile incidents and responses. On June 8th, investigators charged a suspect with grand larceny and falsifying business records at a business in Junius. The same day, deputies responded to a double fatal car accident on Burgess Rd, in Waterloo, where speed and non-compliance were identified as contributing factors. On June 13th, a felony welfare fraud arrest was made in Waterloo, and a suspect was arrested in Varick for allegedly violating a court order, committing criminal mischief, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Further notable incidents took place on June 14th, where deputies and investigators were involved in dismantling a major narcotics trafficking ring, responsible for the distribution of dangerous drugs such as fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin in Finger Lakes communities. Another significant case was recorded on June 22nd, as deputies responded to a domestic violence case in Ovid, with a suspect arrested for allegedly violating a court order and vandalizing a vehicle. The report serves as an essential summary of the activities and ongoing work of the Sheriff’s Office in maintaining law and order in Seneca County.
