The City of Geneva is on the brink of appointing a new police chief, with the decision expected to be made today (July 20) by City Manager Amie Hendrix, and the public announcement to follow by August 1.
The final three candidates—Detective Lieutenant Matt Colton, Patrol Sergeant Ron Eveland, and Road Patrol Lieutenant John Van Savage—were interviewed twice last Thursday, first in a closed session and then in a publicized live YouTube event where they answered community-submitted questions.
In a bid to involve the community in the selection process, the YouTube interview session was streamed live and subsequently posted for later viewing.
The online initiative attracted the attention of over 550 viewers, prompting city residents to express their thoughts via emails and phone calls. Former Police Chief Mike Passalacqua’s retirement in June prompted this extensive selection process, the details of which are expected to be concluded soon.
