Bath village officer honored for saving life on I-86

Officer William Michalko of the Bath Village Police Department was awarded a commendation for his life-saving efforts during a suicidal incident on Interstate-86 on June 7.

According to the commendation, Officer Michalko swiftly responded to a call around 10:30 p.m., locating an unresponsive individual perched on a guardrail near the highway.

The situation escalated when the distressed individual moved into the path of an approaching tractor-trailer. Without hesitation, Michalko intervened, pushing the person out of harm’s way and wrestling them to the ground.

The individual, who police reported as highly combative, was eventually subdued using a taser. The commendation recognized Officer Michalko for his determination, motivation, and unwavering dedication to public safety.
