Loretto, a leading healthcare provider, has confirmed a wage increment for over 1,000 healthcare workers across its facilities, including The Commons on St. Anthony, an Auburn nursing home, and various Syracuse locations. A successful agreement with 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East entails a 4% annual pay rise for the next three years.
The terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, which received unanimous support from union members at all locations, also preserve current health insurance, pension, and education benefits. Additional improvements include increased uniform allowances, longevity bonuses, and shift differentials. The deal has been well-received by staff, with certified nurse assistant Kristina Dean expressing gratitude for the recognition and Melissa Hughes, a 35-year Loretto veteran, describing it as the best contract she has ever had.
This agreement also improves starting wages for new union workers at Loretto, with varying rates for different roles, including $17.50 per hour for dietary/housekeeping staff and $22 per hour for certified nurse assistants. The pay increase is a strategic move by Loretto to enhance post-COVID retention and recruitment in its facilities.
