F.F. Thompson Hospital has been awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care following a stringent two-day site visit. This prominent certification, offered by the country’s leading healthcare accrediting body, is indicative of Thompson’s continuous compliance with performance standards and demonstrates its commitment to safe, quality care for mothers and newborns. Notably, Thompson Hospital is among the first two hospitals in New York State and one of the top five nationwide to earn this esteemed certification.
Dr. Jillian Babu, from the OB/GYN practice at Thompson’s Canandaigua Medical Group, highlighted that the surveyor was particularly impressed by the integrative approach adopted by the hospital. The OB department was found to be holistically supported by all other departments, emphasizing the collaborative spirit within the institution.
Executive Vice President/COO Kurt Koczent also added that the surveyor commended the hospital’s nursing staff, physicians, and midwives. Specifically, the bereavement process, lactation program, and evidence-based practices were highlighted as exemplary. He concluded by stating, “This survey is a great validation of what we do every day,” acknowledging the dedicated efforts of the Birthing Center, the providers from Canandaigua Medical Group, and the Quality/Safety department.
