Economic development workshops planned for Wayne County

The Wayne Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) in partnership with SCORE Greater Rochester is preparing to host a series of five in-person workshops leading up to the 5th Annual KickStart Wayne County Adult Pitch Competition. While the competition is exclusive to Wayne County residents, the workshops, aimed at budding entrepreneurs, are open to all interested parties.

Scheduled to begin on June 26, 2023, these workshops will be held at the Macedon Public Library and offer participants an opportunity to consult with SCORE volunteers, develop their business plans, and refine their pitch presentations. Attendance at a minimum of one SCORE workshop is a prerequisite for competition entrants. The workshops cover a variety of subjects, ranging from Peer to Peer Networking to a Panel Discussion on Banking, Accounting, Insurance & Legal matters. Katie Bronson, WEDC’s Chief Operating Officer, stated the workshops are designed to “help local entrepreneurs turn great ideas into successful businesses.”

The Pitch Competition submission deadline is set for September 29, 2023. Selected finalists will present their pitch to a live panel of judges in November, with the top pitch standing to win a $20,000 cash prize to kick-start their business. The runner-up will receive $5,000. Alongside the Adult Pitch Competition, a Student Pitch Competition will be held for Wayne County students in grades 9 through 12, with a total of $5,000 awards across multiple categories. Information about the competitions and registration for the SCORE workshops can be found at www.WEDCny.com.
